What are we all about?
Globespotter.com is a non-profit organization dedicated to making our world a better place through education, communications and action.
Our mission is to act as a central place where you can find out about ways that you can help, and learn what other people are doing. We realize that there is an impossible amount of information available and that it is difficult for the average person to know what information is really useful. There are groups that have political or other agendas that lobby for certain actions or to support their particular cause. We realize that there are positive and negative aspects to almost all things that we do, and that prioritizing them can be very important. We also understand that the whole issue of global problems can be overwhelming to people, and we want to help people to realize that small acts CAN make a big difference, even if it does not seem like they do.
We do research and due diligence on stories and ideas before we present them here. We are not perfect, but we strive to check multiple sources and verify information that we present, so that you do not have to. We also aim to give you a balanced approach - always giving both sides of a story or the pros and cons of initiatives. When we do support a cause or group, we do so because we feel that the net effect they have is on the positive side and that the cons are acceptable, yet clearly identified.
Why do we do this?
We do this, because we care. Yes - that is the only reason. We are not in this to make money or for any other reason. We want to improve our world and we think there are a lot of people who feel the same way. We do sell some promotional products on our site, but the sale of them does not even defray the cost of running our site. This is a totally non-profit venture. We do not employ staff, or pay people in any way. This is really the only way we feel we can be objective and reduce bias.
So what do we want?
We want lots of people to start thinking about what they can to do make our world a better place. We want people to talk about what they can do, and what they are doing. We want people to add us if they are on MySpace and tell their friends about us. We want people to bookmark our site and tell us what they are doing so we can share with everyone.
